I Have Seen You
I think you dropped
something
back there.
Oh, it’s your mask
that slipped and fell.
I have seen you,
in that moment
how you really are.
Not what you want others to see,
but the real you.
You saw me,
watching, as you
quickly picked up your mask,
lest others see what truly lies beneath
your projection, your mask
hiding your duality.
But I have seen.
I see you now, though your mask is
firmly in place once again.
I have witnessed the truth of you.
You cannot fool me. Not again.
I have seen you.
I know you now,
as you truly are.
I turn and walk
away.
Realizing that the people who we think will help us and support us are not who they portray themselves to be is a really hard truth. I have worked through so much of that with therapy.
